City Councilman Myron Lowery, former city chief administrative officer Rick Masson and a handful of current and former Center City Commission insiders are among local candidates for the agency’s top job.

Lowery and Masson join CCC staffer Jerome Rubin, Andy Kitsinger and Eric Robertson, former staffers John Lawrence, Lee Warren and Scott Adams and immediate past board chairman Paul Morris among locals seeking the $155,000 a year post.

The task of leading Downtown’s officials redevelopment agency also drew wide interest from urban planning and economic development professionals outside Memphis.

A Center City search committee got its first look Wednesday at 75 applications for the job that 12-year president Jeff Sanford will vacate June 30. Sanford, a former councilman, has hit retirement age and plans to continue working as a consultant.
