Richard K. Arras will return next month to his role as president and COO of all of the Perkins restaurants, a job he once held for 10 years.

Arras was most recently the president and CEO of Boston Market and has served in C-level roles at Shoney’s and Cracker Barrel in a 30-year career.

Arras served in his new role with Memphis-based Perkins & Marie Callender’s Inc. once before, from 1988 to 1998. He will now oversee all aspects of 470 Perkins restaurants in 34 states and five Canadian provinces.

Perkins was founded in Memphis in 1958 and now more than 50 percent of its stores are located in Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Florida and Wisconsin.

Nationwide open house

Memphis Realtors will participate in a nationwide weekend of open houses next weekend, April 10-11.

The idea is to bring attention on special factors that make this a good time to buy a house, Memphis Area Association of Realtors officials say.

Interest rates are still relatively low and the federal tax credit of up to $8,000 will be available to homebuyers who have a signed contract by April 30 and close within 60 days.

Glenn A. Moore, MAAR president, said, “For the serious buyer, the opportunity to tour dozens of homes in one weekend is a real time saver and others who didn’t think they could afford a home might be drawn into the market by affordable prices and low interest rates.”

Blue Realtor balloons will mark the homes participating in the nationwide open house.

Caller ID TV app offered

Combining its telecommunications and broadcast capabilities, AT&T is now offering its Memphis U-verse customers a “Caller ID” television app.

The service offers users the ability to see who is calling them and receive voicemail notifications simply by watching television.

The system works by displaying small messages onscreen for six seconds when new calls come in or when users receive voicemail.

In addition, AT&T recently was named Video Company of the Year by Frost & Sullivan, based on customer growth and innovation due to the U-verse offerings.
