Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen will give away 2,000 pieces of fried chicken today at its 2,000th and newest store, 4201 Hacks Cross Road in southeast Memphis, beginning at 10 a.m.

Officials of the bayou-born, Atlanta-based chain said the giveaway, three pieces and a biscuit per customer on a firste, first-served basis, celebrates a growth strategy rooted in extensive economic analysis of new restaurant sites.

The newest Popeyes is owned and operated by Olive Oil Associates, led by president Bob Cook, the chain’s 2010 Operator of the Year.

Cook has more than 45 years of franchise and quick-service restaurant experience.

U-verse upgrades DVR

AT&T U-verse launched upgraded free DVR features in Memphis on Friday.

The new service will allow customers with AT&T U-verse Total Home to pause and rewind live programming on any television in their home, even if the DVR is connected to a different TV.

In addition, Memphis customers can control, record and play back shows from any room in their home, all from a single DVR.

The cost for new customers who bundle U-verse TV U-family and U-verse High Speed Internet Pro is $49 per month for six months.

IRS office open today

Memphis-area residents who want face-to-face help with federal tax issues but can’t visit an IRS office during the work week can visit the Memphis IRS Taxpayer Assistance Center today.

The center at 22 North Front Street will be open 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The IRS will especially be be offering help and advice during July to people who are struggling paying off federal tax liabilities.

“Due to changes in IRS collection procedures, this is a good time for taxpayers who owe federal taxes and are facing tough times to get a fresh start with the IRS,” said Dan Boone, IRS spokesman.

How to market St. Jude

The Sales and Marketing Society of the Mid-South will present “Marketing St. Jude in a Changing World” from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. on July 20 at The Racquet Club, 5111 Sanderlin.

The forum will feature keynote speaker Richard C. Shadyac Jr., CEO of ALSAC.

Admission, which includes lunch, is free for members, $20 for students and $30 for guests who pay at the door. Nonmembers may purchase tickets online for $25 each.

Nicklaus taps local firm

Memphis-based consulting agency Southern Growth Studios is working with the Nicklauspanies to develop branding, product portfolio assessment and new product opportunity evaluation.

The Nicklauspanies, owned by golf legend Jack Nicklaus and the Nicklaus family, is headquartered in North Palm Beach, Fla.

Southern Growth Studio has offices locally and in Oxford, Miss.
