Bolivia’s state power company Ende this year will work on securing financing for thermo projects Sur and La Paz.

The Sur project would boast 120MW and is planned for the Chaco region, while La Paz’s capacity would be 60MW and be built south of the country’s capital.

The technical, economic, social and environmental study for Sur has been completed and 80% for La Paz, BNamericas has learned.

Construction of the US$107mn Sur and US$78mn La Paz plants is penciled in for 2011-12, with operations startup scheduled for 2013.

The plants are part of Ende’s generation infrastructure expansion plan which includes Ende Andina’s 120MW gas-fired Entre Ríos plant in Cochabamba department that is in the process of coming online.

The plan also includes the possible supply of power to the El Mutún iron ore and steel project which is due to begin production in the second half of 2014. Studies are underway.
