Construction of the Chilca-Marcona-Montalvo transmission project in Peru could begin in August, according to information from Abengoa Transmisiуn Sur (ATS).

The state agency for promoting private investment ProInversiуn awarded ATS the 30-year concession contract last year.

The 500kV line will run 900km and reinforce the interconnection between the center and south of the country, specifically Lima and Moquegua regions. Works include construction of three substations and the expansion of another three.

The group’s project budget reaches US$404mn, of which US$237mn is for line and substation equipment, US$141mn for construction and US$26.3mn for other services, ATS said in the project EIS submitted to the energy and mines ministry.

The group has penciled in July 2013 for the start of commercial operations.
