The Chile unit of Spanish systems integrator Indra has started to develop healthcare sector solutions for possible export to other Latin American countries, the unit’s director general, Luis Cuezzo, told BNamericas.
Indra is developing new software to complement its existing healthcare offering, which includes solutions geared towards areas such as diagnosis, image processing and hospital schedule management.
“This new software that we are creating is mainly oriented to the services side, and the idea is that any patient or healthcare community can rely on technology for everything related to healthcare service management,” he said.
Cuezzo said Indra in Chile plans to focus more on the healthcare industry because of a shortage of both IT players and specialists in the sector.
“One can compensate for the lack of professionals through technology use,” he said.
Indra in Chile is expected to release more concrete information regarding the new solutions during the second half of the year, but Cuezzo noted that local pipeline already includes 50-60 clients interested in adopting the technologies by year’s end.
Other 2010 priorities for Indra in Chile include IT outsourcing as well as security, which includes the monitoring of both computer systems and also physical locations.
Indra saw its Latin American sales increase 15% last year. Cuezzo said Indra in Chile saw sales increase 5-6% during the same period, with swift business coming in areas such as outsourcing.
The executive added that the Chile unit generates 15-20% of Indra’s overall Latin American sales, which in turn account for 11% of the company’s global revenues.
Indra’s global sales increased 6% last year to 2.51bn euros (currently US$3.38bn), while net profits increased 7% to 196mn euros.
