Brazil’s special ports department (SEP) has launched a 64.3mn-real (US$35.7mn) tender for dredging at Santa Catarina state’s Itajaí port.
“The original plan was to launch the tender in May, but the date was brought forward as environmental licensing and government approval was quicker than expected,” an SEP spokesperson told BNamericas.
“Furthermore, the original 23.3mn tender was raised to its current price as we increased the dredge depth from 12-14m,” the spokesperson said.
Interested parties have until April 23 to request clarifications and must present proposals on May 6, according to the bidding rules.
The tender is open to international firms and the contract will be awarded to the lowest bidder.
This is SEP’s 15th tender launch under the national dredging program.
Other upcoming dredging projects in H1 are Suape port (in Pernambuco state), Paranaguá port (Paraná) and Imbituba port (Santa Catarina), according to the spokesperson.
Of the 2.7bn reais the country’s growth acceleration plan PAC has allocated to restructure and modernize the country’s ports, about 1.5bn reais are earmarked for the dredging program.
