The Cooper-Young business district will get a new art gallery when David Perry Smith Gallery opens May 7.
Smith closed Perry Nicole Fine Art Gallery, in Chickasaw Gardens, with his partner Nicole Haney several months ago.
“I didn’t just want to move Perry Nicole to another location, but rather change the scope and represent only local artists in this new gallery,” Smith said.
The gallery will highlight local artists working in a variety of styles, from landscape to abstract and media, from marble and glass to ceramic sculpture. The gallery will have monthly exhibits, guest curators, lectures and artist demonstrations.
Smith will host an opening reception at the gallery from 6 to 9 p.m. May 7 at 703 New York.
The reception will feature work by Laura Painter Stafford, Andy Reed, Grey Gustafson, Mary Long-Postal, Mary Reed, Bob Eoff, John McIntre, Alex Walter, Road Moorehead, Hank Gray, John Sadowski and Don Morgan.
