Peru’s private investment promotion agency ProInversiуn will award a contract to build stretch II of the IIRSA Centro highway in Q3, government news service Andina reported.

The agency has approved the final version of the concession contract for the highway stretch, which spans Lima, Junнn and Pasco regions, and is now awaiting its approval from transport regulator Ositran.

A tender for the stretch, which will cost some US$60mn, was launched in November last year, but was delayed while the concession contract was finalized.

The contract involves building, operating and maintaining the stretch for 25 years, after which time the infrastructure will be transferred to the state, according to ProInversiуn.

Stretch II includes the Puente Ricardo Palma (Lima)-La Oroya (Junнn)-Huancayo (Junнn) section and the La Oroya-Cerro de Pasco (Pasco) connection, totaling about 370km.

The 900km IIRSA Centro highway spans Lima, Junнn, Pasco, Huanuco and Ucayali regions. ProInversiуn initially planned to concession the highway as a whole, but divided it into three stretches following concerns about the risks associated with the scale of the project.
