The U.S. economy expanded a little faster at the beginning of the year than previously estimated. But the pace was still anemic and economists don’t see that changing until later this year.
Themerce Department on Friday said the economy grew at an annual rate of 1.9 percent in the January-March quarter. The revision reflected stronger exports and more business spending on stockpiles.

Mexico’s state oil company Pemex must re-assume control over distribution of gasoline in order to attack the country’s growing fuel theft problem, Mexican energy expert David Shields told BNamericas.
“It’s very easy to solve this. Total control over the tanker trucks. Total control over every liter of gasoline from the refinery to the gasoline station. That’s the way it was 15 years ago. You move the army in and take control over all the distributors by making sure they have a contract for every single movement of gasoline around the country,” Shields said.
Shields argued that reform more than a decade ago made it easier for private players to get involved in fuel distribution, and as a result companies willing to move gasoline siphoned from Pemex’s pipelines cannot be held accountable.

Almost half of motorists are cutting back on the number of journeys they make for financial reasons, according to the annual RAC Report on Motoring.
A poll of 1,000 drivers by the motoring organisation found that the money needed to run a car was now motorists’ number one concern.
The report suggests rural drivers have been particularly badly hit by the rising cost of motoring as they are almost twice as reliant on their cars as urban motorists.
People living in the countryside have to rely on their own transport to get them to work, take their children to school and visit friends and relatives, as public transport is often not an option.
Nearly one in three rural drivers said their nearest bus stop or train station was too far away to be convenient, compared to just 3% of urban motorists.
Some 86% of rural drivers said it would be very difficult for them to use their cars less, compared to just 69% of urban motorists. A
